About
Composer Michelle DiBucci was born in Pittsburgh and made her New York debut with the Brooklyn Philharmonic under Lukas Foss. She has been commissioned to write works for the Kronos Quartet, Musiktheater im Revier, Rioarte, Lincoln Center Institute, and the Pilobolus dance company, among others. Most active as a composer for theater, opera, dance, and film, her works have been performed in Alice Tully Hall, Zankel Hall, Harvey Theater at the Brooklyn Academy of Music, Komische Oper in Berlin, South Bank Centre in London, Dr. Dantes Aveny in Copenhagen, and Teatro Carlos Gomes in Rio de Janeiro. She has received grants and awards from Opera America, the Virginia B. Toulmin Foundation, Pennsylvania Council for the Arts, Meet the Composer, Prague Quadrennial, ASCAP, the Andrew Carnegie Society, and Aspen Center for Compositional Studies. DiBucci holds a BFA from Carnegie-Mellon University and a MM from Juilliard and studied composition with Louis Andriessen, Leonardo Balada, Vincent Persichetti, and Bernard Rands. She has been on the faculty at Juilliard since 1992.
